CARACAS, Venezuela — At a small house with a dripping tin roof near Venezuela’s money, Johandrys Colls proudly flaunts two steel crowns with synthetic gemstones and nine satin sashes won in neighborhood beauty pageants.
The 16-year-old daughter of the butcher and a teacher is pinning her hopes for the next free from poverty about the same objective: rising through the entire world of pageants and becoming a beauty queen that is international.
“These sashes represent an enormous achievement in my situation, ” says the skinny teenager with brownish eyes as she pushes her long black colored locks from a single part to a different. “I accomplished the things I attempted to achieve. ”
